It is that time again where students must start school, college, university and so on. Going back to school can be an exciting time for many students. However, having homework and exams again can be very stressful. It does not have to be this way though. Here are a few tips to make school less difficult.

Using the internet is a great way to do research but do you know how to use it effectively? You can find information on online encyclopedias as well as wikis but this ought to simply be a starting point for research. Use these websites to get a quick overview of the topic. You can then take this initial research and carry out more detailed internet research for more targeted areas of study. There is so much information available on the internet outside of the most popular resources.

Making use of college department sites is a fantastic way to locate accurate and well researched information. A lot of the time they will offer their students online material which may be readable by the public. You can then use this information as part of your own research. Your professors will be impressed that you refer to information from a respected source. There is often a stigma that online resources are not academic. However, using information from respected online sources is typically accepted.

Another important tip is to use the internet for the one thing which it is most famous for: socializing. Working with friends/classmates is a great way to get a clearer understanding of issues or get responses to questions. There are sites that allow you to get answers to questions on a wide variety of topics. Sometimes you may get inappropriate responses or answers that are no help. Do not let this deter you though – there are many people who honestly want to help you. There are websites that also allow you to contact a teacher or professor for help.

There are also many forums concerning your topic. For example, if you are writing an essay on the history of Spain, then you will be able to find forums for Spain, the Spanish language, history and so on.

One thing that is very important for studying and good study habits is consistency. Start the term by being organized and it will be much easier to study when exam time comes. Offline, this should be done by using individual folders for every course and have different sections for different subject matters covered. However, organizing files and resources on your computer and the internet can often be harder. This means it is often difficult to locate information you saved many months ago come exam time.

For each class you take, create folders on your computer. If you want, you can create folders within this folders for every topic covered etc. Then when you do an essay you can save to the appropriate folder (and not just on your desktop). Additionally, bookmarks and favorites are an excellent way to manage online research. If you use an online bookmarking program then you will be able to save favorites. This works really well for never forgetting anything. If you are working in school and need to go home, favorite the site online and you will have access to them from anywhere in the world. Furthermore, online bookmarking allows everyone to quickly share favorites between friends. Online bookmarking is a great technique to work collaboratively and organize resources better.

Anyone can use personal homepages to help with studying. You can use a customized home page to share links with friends. If you share an account then everyone can use the resource to build a personalized directory of information. You can sign up for many free, online wiki and homepage building sites. You will then be able to email your classmates: “hey, why not check out my homepage” and people will be able to check out your links and also use it as a resource. Working collaboratively on a project is a great way to make it enjoyable, not as dull and share the amount of work.
